What It Is

The Mediator Release Test (MRT) is a blood test that measures your immune reaction to 120 foods and 30 chemicals. The results are sent to you by Dr. Cometa. Consultation with Dr. Cometa is also an option for a separate cost, to review the results and what next steps can be considered.

What It’s For

Medical research has shown that sensitivities to foods and food-chemicals can produce inflammatory chemicals that, if not removed, can lead to chronic inflammatory conditions such as:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Migraines or chronic headaches
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Crohn’s or Colitis
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Eczema
  • Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome
  • FPIES
  • GERD, reflux
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Chronic fatigue
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Edema

Symptoms frequently caused by food sensitivities:

  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Thin stools
  • Abdominal or intestinal pain
  • Bloating, Distention, Gas
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Heartburn
  • Headaches
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Fatigue or sleepiness during the day
  • Insomnia
  • General malaise (feeling lousy)
  • Irritability, Depression, Anxiety, Mood Swings
  • Post Nasal Drip, Chronic Drainage
  • Skin conditions such as Eczema and Dermatitis
  • Fluctuating weight,  water retention
  • Brain fog

What You Get

Test results are sent directly to you from Cometa Wellness Center. These will include Dr. Cometa’s preliminary feedback suggesting whether or not you should consider scheduling a follow-up consulting appointment with Dr. Cometa to get a full interpretation of the results.

More About Food Sensitivity Testing with Mediator Release Technology - MRT

Food and food-chemical sensitivities are highly complex inflammatory reactions that are one of the most important sources of inflammation and symptoms across a wide range of chronic inflammatory conditions. Mediator release is the key pathological event associated with food-induced inflammation. Food-induced inflammation is one of the most clinically challenging problems to address. This is because symptom manifestation may be delayed by many hours or days after ingestion and there are often many reactive foods and food-chemicals that cause a problem. Also, even so-called anti-inflammatory foods, such as salmon, parsley, turmeric, ginger, blueberry, and any “healthy” food can be reactive.

Whether inflammation remains at a sub-clinical level or becomes symptom-provoking, the single common feature and most clinically important component of all diet-induced inflammatory reactions is that they ultimately cause mediator release (cytokines, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, etc.) from various white blood cells (neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils, lymphocytes) to cause Inflammation.

MRT® provides information no other blood test or method can provide.  MRT® is a functional assay that quantifies and measures the subtle changes that occur in your white blood cells when exposed to food proteins. It is a blood test that measures your immune reaction to 120 foods and 30 chemicals.

Oxford Biomedical Technology originated in 1984 and are the innovative creators of their Mediator Release Technology, the MRTIII®. This is the world’s most advanced and reliable instrument for measuring the subtle changes that occur in hidden inflammatory reactions to foods and food-chemicals. All food-induced inflammatory reactions involve mediator release, which is the single most important event leading to all the negative effects food sensitivity.
