The Iodine 24-hour urine test may be used to evaluate iodine deficiency disorders or monitor exposure to iodine and it may also be used to help diagnose iodine-induced hypothyroidism hyperthyroidism or autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

This test requires patients void urine at 8am and discard the specimen. Then collect all urine in 24-hour period ending with final collection at 8 am the next morning.
